At Unite Bridge Hope, our ESOL Baking Project brings people together through food, language, and community. These friendly and welcoming sessions support people learning English by combining practical conversation with hands-on baking activities.
Participants learn how to bake cakes and desserts from around the world while practising everyday English in a relaxed and supportive environment. Sessions help build confidence in speaking, listening, reading recipes, and working as part of a team.
The project also provides opportunities for learners to gain real-life experience by helping to prepare and sell cakes at Bakara Café. This allows participants to practise customer service, take orders, handle conversations, and improve their spoken English in a real community setting.
Our sessions are open to all English levels and create a safe space where people can:
- Improve English conversation skills
- Learn new baking techniques
- Meet new people and build friendships
- Share culture, food, and experiences
- Grow confidence and independence
- Feel part of the local community
No baking experience is needed — just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Through baking, conversation, and connection, the ESOL Baking Project helps break down barriers, reduce isolation, and create opportunities for people from different backgrounds to come together.
